Visit of MGI delegation to Scotland and London Universities

A team led by Dr. Avichal Kapur, Dean (Quality Assurance) & Adviser, Director, IRO, Meghe Group of Institutions, visited UK from 30th May, 2010 to 10h June,2010. The other members of the team were Dr. A.M. Pande, Principal, YCCE, Dr. M.M. Raghuwanshi, Principal, NYSSCER, P.T. Karule, Dean III], YCCE, Shri A.B. Patil, YCCE,Ms. S.V. Rathkanthiwar, YCCE, Ms. Gauri Dophavkar, YCCE, Ms. Rakhi Khedikar, YCCE, Ms. Shilpa Pande, NYSSCER, Ms. Archana Shrivastav DMIMS.

The team visited various member Colleges of Scotlands Colleges International [SCI] like Dundee College, Central College, Clydebank College, Langside College, Edinburgh's Telford College, Glasgow Metropolitan College.

During 30th May to 4th June, 2010, the team visited member colleges of Scotland's Colleges International which is an umbrella organization of 43 colleges located in Scotland. The delegation had visited the facilities and had a wide range of discussion. The delegation learnt about the various practices of teaching learning methodologies They explored future collaborations in the areas of joint research programs, resource sharing, curriculum development, student/faculty exchange programs, assessment and benchmarking, joint conferencing, joint delivery of programs etc.

Annual Action Plan for the year 2010 - 2011 has been prepared and signed by both SCI and MGI. The action plan consists of activities, terms of reference, deadlines and the working group for the following activities:

  • The Staff and Students visits and exchange programmes in specific curricular areas.

  • Joint Delivery and Curriculum development of technical training, vocational and professional skills in specific curricular areas.

  • Mutual Learning Resource Sharing in specific curricular areas.

  • Collaborative programmes to support capacity development in both SCI and MGI member colleges.

  • Assessment and benchmarking of existing qualifications.

  • Web conferencing, delivery of programmes/lectures through www.netviewer.com, ipadio.com, other ICT enabled tools.

Major achievements of the visit:
  1. It was agreed that HND programme can be started in collaborative mode with effect from July/August, 2011 wherein 1 year or 1 semester will be completed in MGI, rest of the programme will be delivered in partner institute.

  2. Alternatively Student will get a HND and can take an employment for a period of 2 years.

  3. Fee sharing will be there for both the years of study.

  4. It was agreed that specified/customized training programmes to be implemented through e-medium will be designed for the benefit of students and faculty members of MGI.

  5. It was agreed that MGI and the willing SCI institutes, will implement Master class programme.

On 6th June, 2010 Dr. Avichal Kapur, Dean (Quality Assurance) & Adviser, Director, IRO visited Teeside University. He explored possibilities of future collaborations in the areas of joint research programs, resource sharing, curriculum development, student/faculty exchange programs, assessment and benchmarking, joint conferencing, joint delivery of programs etc.

On 7th June, 2010 the delegation visited Derby University. They explored possibilities of future collaborations in the areas of Research projects, Sharing of E-Resources, Co-guide in the research projects, Arranging Video Conferencing sessions for the faculty as well as the students, Exchange of faculty members in some subject areas, Possibility of starting 1+1 or any suitable model including Distance Learning Model through Video Conferencing with MGI parallel to their African model.

On 8th June, 2010 Dr. Avichal Kapur, Dean (Quality Assurance) & Adviser, Director, IRO visited City University. He explored possibilities of future collaborations in the areas of joint research programs, resource sharing, curriculum development, student/faculty exchange programs, assessment and benchmarking, joint conferencing, joint delivery of programs etc.

It was a great learning experience for the delegation and is expected to generate mutual benefits for institutes, students and faculties. It has established the "MEGHE" brand in the UK academic arena.
